The Technology for Contaminant Removal The auction will feature five USA patents and one Canadian patent focused on adsorbent medias effective for the treatment of industrial waters. Common to all six patents is an activated alumina substrate that contains bound sulfur and iron compounds that are capable of interacting with and covalently bonding various ionic metal contaminants throughout the high macroporosity of the media Granted claims include: – Composition of matter – Alternative substrates – Methods of use – mercury and arsenic removal focus – Method of manufacture – Up to 15 years patent life remaining

MAR Successfully Commercialized the Functionalized Activated Alumina Media Technology Summary of US 8,569,205 – Sorption media for removal of contaminants from fluid streams. The sorption media comprise an active compound bound or linked to a support substrate or matrix. Support substrates can include iron and alumina based materials. A method for making sorption media for the removal of contaminants from fluid streams is also described. Summary of US 8,771,519 – A method of reducing a level of metallic species contamination of a fluid by contacting the fluid with a sorption media, where the sorption media comprises a sulfur species chemically bonded to a support substrate and where the support substrate comprises an iron species

Selenium Removal Process Claims Summary A system for reducing a level of metallic contaminants, especially selenium, from an aqueous stream where the system is configured to: – Lower the pH of a metallic contaminant-contaminated aqueous stream to a pH of less than 6 – Contact the metallic contaminant-contaminated aqueous stream with at least one of an aluminum oxide sorption media and an ion exchange media – Then contact the metallic contaminant-contaminated aqueous stream with a functionalized activated alumina media – Discharge the metallic contaminant-reduced aqueous solution – This process targets the removal of selenium, especially the selenate species

IP Sector for Granted and Pending: Water, Air and Hydrocarbon Treatment Speciality Chemical Patents Offered are speciality chemical patents targeted for water treatment applications that cover the commercialized MAR Systems Sorbster® media products The claims, while targeting mercury and arsenic removal, also cover the removal by the media of other metals in the broad category of fluid streams The broadness of the claims also provides coverage for the functionalized chemistry of sulfur and iron reacted onto substrates other than aluminum.
