What is the Watchlist? The Watchlist allows you to be notified when files you expect to be submitted to NIMAC are certified and available for download. You add the ISBN for the item to the list. When that ISBN is certified, you will automatically receive an email from the system alerting you that it is available.
9
What the Watchlist is not… Adding a title to the Watchlist is not a mechanism to request files from publishers. Per IDEA 2004, the print book purchase contract is the only mechanism for requiring a publisher to produce NIMAS. The NIMAS effective date was July 19, 2006, but States implemented NIMAS at widely varying speeds. The NIMAC does not receive files for books purchased “pre-NIMAS.”
10
Obtaining accessible formats for “pre-NIMAS” titles The good news: Many older books are already be available in accessible formats! Louis Plus at APH allows users to search Louis, Bookshare, and NIMAC with one search: http://louis.aph.org/custom/SearchResults_UnifiedS earch.aspx Learning Ally is also a great resource: http://www.learningally.org http://www.learningally.org
11
Obtaining “pre-NIMAS” files If the format you need is not available, there are several options for contacting the publisher: – Many of the publisher contacts who are responsible for fielding requests for digital files for braille production also handle other disability requests for older materials. – A list of braille contacts can be found at the APH web site: http://www.aph.org/louis/braillepub.html
12
Obtaining “pre-NIMAS” files – If the publisher you need is not on that list, try using the Contact Information tab in the AU portal to locate the publisher’s web site. – Most publishers have a Rights & Permissions or Disability Requests contact on their web site. – If you don’t find what you need, you can use the Publisher Contact Information in the AU portal and ask that person if they can help. – Or just contact us!
13
Obtaining “pre-NIMAS” files If you aren’t sure whether the title was purchased or published before your State implemented NIMAS, feel free to contact us at nimac@aph.org. nimac@aph.org We are happy to contact the publisher for you and find out if they will be submitting a file. If a book was first published pre-NIMAS but is still in print and sold, we may still get the file.
14
Watchlist For recently purchased textbooks and workbooks that you do expect to be submitted to the NIMAC, the Watchlist keeps you from having to search over and over as you wait for the file to be added. Just search once, and if the file is not there, you can add the ISBN to your Watchlist and automatically be notified when it’s available!

Adding a title to the Watchlist In the ISBN box, enter an ISBN that appears on the student edition print book. Important: Publishers are increasingly selling books bundled with resources under ISBNs that don’t appear on the print book. Please don’t use a teacher edition ISBN or a kit or set ISBN that refers to the book bundled with additional resources. www.nimac.us19

Watchlist Status The status of the file may be: – Not Submitted to NIMAC Files that the NIMAC has not yet received – In Review Process Files that have been received but have not yet completed the certification process. – Awaiting Corrections Files that have been rejected for certification due to errors and must be resubmitted by the publisher. – Certified File has now been certified and is available.
23
More on adding to the Watchlist The system will give you an error if your number is not 13 or 10 digits. However, it won’t know if you’ve typed a wrong number, so be sure to check the number to make sure you entered it correctly. If you do make a typo, you can always delete the entry and start over.

Certified files Once the file has been certified, you will receive an email from they system letting you know it is available, and the item will show “Certified” as the status in the Watchlist. Just delete these items once you have downloaded them. Any file that shows “Certified” was certified after being added to the Watchlist; the system will alert you if you try to add a Certified ISBN.

Publisher Contacts A few important reminders: – The contacts provided by publishers to the NIMAC are administrative NIMAC account holders at each company. – These individuals may or may not be directly involved in NIMAS conversion. – Also, many mergers have happened in recent years; if you don’t see a company listed, the imprint may be owned by a larger company. – Feel free to contact us with any inquiries. www.nimac.us50
