4 STI Technology Resources Policy STI technology resources are for educational purposes only User accounts and electronic content are the property of STI Prohibited network activity includes, but not limited to: Sending, accessing, uploading, downloading, or distributing offensive, profane, threatening, or pornographic materials. Downloading or transmitting games, music, or non-educational videos. Note: Downloading of inappropriate items at home and transporting to STI is still a violation. This is still STI’s laptop and network environment. Vandalizing, damaging, or disabling property of the school. Accessing other individual’s files without permission. Full technology resources usage policy can be found on: STI website and STInet In summary form, every time you click and sign-on to VMWare View Client.

5 Your Password User name: firstname.lastname ( i.e. john.smith) Password: first letter of first name and first letter of last name followed by last 4 numbers of SSN. ( i.e. js1234) Log in to your webmail

6 Web Mail STI Webmail STI Webmail – 400 mb max http://mail.southeasttech.edu Log in with your network username and password Sample email address format is: john.smith@southeasttech.edu STI will communicate all school related business to your STI email account * You will need to check this daily

7 Changing Your Password Access your Options dropdown menu in Webmail Choose Change Your Password Rules Must have combination of letters and numbers Must be at least 6 characters long

12 VMWare View Client Information on http://byod.southeasttech.edu for installation of View Clienthttp://byod.southeasttech.edu Can be installed on Windows, Mac, Android, iPad Accesses a virtual computer on STI servers What VMWare View Client can do necessary software printing access Home folder and Datacluster

13 Datacluster Access by clicking on desktop icon “Datacluster” of an STI imaged laptop Note: the Datacluster & H: Drive is only available while connected to the STI campus network Click for Datacluster video Quick shortcut for backing up your laptop to your H: is to use the shortcut on the STI laptop. Correction: Video indicates that student H: folders for backup are identified by student number. They are now by first/last name.

14 Backing Up Your Work Backup your document files to your Home Folder (H:), CD/DVD, or flash drive Individual network storage space under Datacluster – Students – Users (H: drive) Storage for STI school related files and assignments only Storage is limited to 500 MB Your Home Folder (H:) is backed up nightly IT is not responsible for recovering files not backed up to your Home Folder (H:) Tip – Save all your laptop files to the “Documents” folder so that 1 folder is what you backup or copy. Once you have copied it to your home folder, rename it to include the date with the folder name Each student has a H: Drive Shortcut on their laptop desktop Backup Technique Click the video link for audio and video: Using Backup Procedure in Control PanelUsing Backup Procedure in Control Panel Handout for Backing up and Restoring on Datacluster Handout Correction: Video indicates that student H: folders for backup are identified by student number. 17 Xerox Campus Printing Solution Printing only works through VMWare View Client Printing Solutions Video “Follow You Printing” - allows you to retrieve your print from any Xerox printer on campus within 24 hours Prints will be secure – will not print until released Gain access to print, copy, and scan to email on multi-functional devices with student ID Named “STI Student Printers” on your laptop
