Scholarship Cumulative unweighted GPA of 88 or higher Student GPA is NOT revisited during selection GPA has to be maintained throughout membership

Leadership Considered HIGHLY important in membership selection Offices held by students in school and community organizations

Leadership (cont’d) Leadership exists outside of elected positions including roles in the classroom, effective participation in positions of responsibility in other activities offered on campus such as Athletic team captains Section leaders in band and chorus Committee chairs Committee responsibilities

Leadership (cont’d) A student exercises leadership when he or she: Is resourceful in proposing new problems, applying principles, and making suggestions Demonstrates initiative in promoting school activities Exercises positive influence on peers in upholding school ideals and spirit Contributes ideas that improve the civic life of the school Is able to delegate responsibilities

Leadership (cont’d) Inspires positive behavior in others Demonstrates academic initiative Successfully holds school offices or positions of responsibilities; conducts business effectively and efficiently; demonstrates reliability and dependability Leader in the classroom, at work, or in other school or community activities Is dependable in any responsibility accepted

Service Actions undertaken by the student which are done with or on behalf of others without any direct financial or material compensation

Service (cont’d ) The student who serves: Volunteers and provides dependable and well-organized assistance, and is willing to make sacrifices to offer assistance Works well with others and is willing to take on difficult or inconspicuous responsibilities Enthusiastically renders any requested service to the school or classroom Is willing to represent the class or school in interclass and interscholastic competition

Verification Each entry on the NHS Candidate Activity Information form must be signed with contact information included. DO NOT wait until the last day to obtain teacher signatures. If an outside signature cannot be obtained, other acceptable forms of verification include: A letter or An email

Notification After the Faculty Council deliberates over each candidate, invitations to join Delsea’s NHS will be mailed home in early November. There will not be any in-school notification regarding the decisions of the Faculty Council.
