2. Adjectives Adjectives modify (describe) nouns. EX: Cassondra is thoughtful. Here thoughtful is an adjective that modifies (describes) the proper noun Cassondra. EX: I see the blue pencil. Here blue modifies the common noun pencil.

3. Identify the Adjectives Zakiya is an intelligent girl. Immanuel lost his small book. Ciara is sleepy at 9:00 pm. Clarence is honest all the time. I saw a beautiful dog yesterday. The red tractor pulled the large load.

4. Adverbs Adverbs modify (describe) verbs, adjectives, and other adverbs. EX: Cassondra speaks thoughtfully. Here thoughtfully is an adverb that modifies the verb speaks. EX: Juan works quickly while in class. Here quickly is an adverb that modifies the verb works.

5. Helpful Hint Most words ending in –ly are adverbs!!!! Remember there are always exceptions, so look closely and think.

6. Identify the Adverbs The beautiful girl sang beautifully. He quickly ran to the new store. The basketball moved swiftly down the court. I hope Ms. Murawski doesn’t slowly drag us through anymore grammar lessons. I really love English!
