Lesson 4 –Adverbs or Adjectives? Some words can be used both as adjectives and as adverbs. Remember: An adjective modifies a noun/pronoun. An adverb modifies a verb, an adjective or another adverb.

Examples: Adjectives: Oak is a hard wood. The journey was long. Adverbs : We studied hard. I worked long into the night. Lesson 4 –Adverbs or Adjectives? hard modifies the noun “wood” long modifies the noun “journey” hard modifies the verb “studied” long modifies the verb “worked”

Good vs. Well Good is always used as an adjective. Well is usually used as an adverb. Examples: That was a good decision. adjective You spoke well. adverb Lesson 4 –Adverbs or Adjectives?

Directions: Write the word in parentheses that correctly completes each sentence. Then, identify whether the word is an adjective or an adverb. 1.Gwen is a (good, well) salesperson. adjective 2.She is always (polite, politely) to her customers. adjective 3.She treats everyone (helpful, helpfully). adverb 4.Her presentations of new products are (good, well). adjective 5.They are planned especially (good, well). adverb Lesson 4 –Adverbs or Adjectives?
