6 The people of East Pakistan wanted their own state. West Pakistan opposed. Civil war broke out and East Pakistan won its independence. This is how Bangladesh became a country. East and West Pakistan shared a religious bond, but ethnic differences and 1,100 miles drove them apart.

15 Nepal and Bhutan are located in the Himalayas. The rugged landscape has isolated both countries throughout history. Hindu kings ruled Nepal. Buddhist priests controlled Bhutan. Today both countries are governed by constitutional monarchies.

16 Both Nepal and Bhutan are poor countries. Tourism is becoming one of the fastest growing industries. This has helped the economy, but all the tourism harms the environment.

21 In Sri Lanka 75% of the population are Sinhaleses Buddhists. Religion plays a key role in the culture in Sri Lanka. Muslim customs have a strong influence in the Maldives. Islam is Maldives state religion. No other religions are allowed.

22 Sri Lanka ’ s main exports are tea, rubber, coconut, sapphires, rubies, and topaz Maldives farming is limited due to lack of land. Fishing use to be its main economic activity. Tourism is now the main economic activity.
