2 Will be provided with all formulas needed Must write formula first, plug in numbers and show your work to get full credit for each problem Make sure you have a calculator!

3 8-1 Circumference = the distance around a circle – Diameter = the distance across a circle through its center – Radius = the distance from the center to any point on the circle Circumference Formulas: – C = πd OR C = 2πr Use first formula if given the diameter in the problem Use second formula if given the radius in the problem – Label answer! Regular units (in, cm, m, etc.)

4 Donna and Jan are training for their upcoming track meet. The girls are members at different gyms, which both have an indoor circular track. Donna’s track has a radius of 46 feet. Jan’s track has a diameter of 95 feet. If both girls run around the track one time, who runs a greater distance? How much more does the person run?

6 Find the area of the shaded region. Use 3.14 for π. Round to the nearest tenth if necessary.

7 8-3 Area of Composite Figures—divide figure into shapes you can find the area of – FOLLOW STEPS! (on pg. 632) 1.) Write out what shapes you are finding the area of 2.) Show work for each shape (use arrows) 3.) Add areas together 4.) Label answer (square units)

10 8-4 Volume of Prisms—the measure of space a three- dimensional figure occupies – Cubic units (cm 3, m 3, etc.) Rectangular prism—bases are rectangles – “make base bottom face” Triangular prism—bases are triangles – use one of the triangles for calculating the area of the base Formula: V = Bh – B = area of the base – h = height of the prism (connects the bases)

14 8-6 Surface Area of Prisms The sum of the areas of all the surfaces, or faces, of a three-dimensional figure is the surface area – Covering a box with wrapping paper Square units!

15 Surface Area of Rectangular Prisms: – Find area of top or bottom; multiply by 2 – Find area of 1 side; multiply by 2 – Find area of front or back; multiply by 2 – Then add all together Surface Area of Triangular Prisms: – Find area of 1 triangle; multiply by 2 – Find area of each rectangle separately – Then add all together

16 Jeff has a gift box that is 11 inches long, 8 inches wide, and 6 inches tall. How many square inches of wrapping paper will he need to wrap the box?

17 Find the surface area of the prism.

18 8-7 Surface Area of Pyramids Total Surface Area = area of all the lateral faces and the base – Find area of base Will be a square or equilateral triangle – Find area of lateral triangle and… Multiply by 3 if equilateral triangle base Multiply by 4 if square base – Add all together

19 Find the surface area of the pyramid.

20 A game piece for a board game is shaped like a square pyramid. It has a slant height of 15 millimeters and the base has edges 11 millimeters long. What is the total surface area of the game piece?
