At first there were two settlements called Kaptol and Gradec. Gradec became a free and royal city in 1242. In 1890 Gradec and Kaptol united into the city of Zagreb. Theaters There are lots of theaters in Zagreb, for example: Komedija, Kerempuh, Gavella,HNK... The Croation National Theater is the biggest and most beautiful theater. The Croation National Theater was built in 1895 by Ferdinand Fellner and Hermann Helmer. It is on the Square of Marshal Tito.

Jelačić Square It is the most popular place in Zagreb. There is a monument of Josip Jelacic in the center of the square. Many important events take place there.

Botanical Garden in Zagreb Botanical Garden is near the central part of town. It was founded in 1889 by Antun Heinz. It covers an area of five hectares.
