1 NHS GENERAL MEETING 2/09/2015

2 General announcements ■All Updates and announcements are on the website so be sure to check it often to see what new volunteer opportunities there are. ■To check your points on the website you need the password, integrity, all lower case. ■Earning points is straightforward: 1 point: 1 Hour of community service ■5 pts max per event ■Points cannot be used for both bright futures and NHS ■Activities are constantly announced on the website, the NHS board in guidance, and in our informal Facebook group (message officers so we can add you).

3 Juniors ■No Juniors are currently on probation ■Get started on your points now! ■15 Points are due by May 15 th, failure to attain to these points by then will result in probation ■Chapter elections will be next meeting ■Turn in your NHS officer applications to Mrs. O’Mahony via her mailbox before the next general meeting on March 9 th ■Applicants must have 5 points ■Applications are under the documents tab of the website labeled ‘officer application’

4 Seniors ■Those of you who have fulfilled your ten point requirement are now graduated members of NHS in good standing ■The NHS scholarship application is up and all seniors in good standing are eligible to apply. Due by the 16 th Documents tab- Scholarship information Last year the National winner earned $13,000 dollars in scholarship money so definitely apply! (There are regional and state finalists that earn scholarships as well) ■If you have not earned your ten points, do so ASAP to earn your NHS distinction on your diploma

5 S4S!!! ■Scholars for Scholars!!! Contact Olivia/Lexi (Have the *teacher* of the student you are tutoring sign off on your hours form) ■Great thing to put on your resume! ■Tutoring experience is a great thing to have!

6 Point opportunities ■Email Mrs. O’mahony your name and grade at Megan.OMahony@sarasotacountyschools.net to confirm your interest in any event below as only limited volunteers will be accepted. Upcoming events: ■ February: -Kickin' Violence Valentine making drive in Wilson from 1-2 on February 8th and 10th (Donations: card stock and Valentine related candy) Mrs. Wilson will sign off on hours ■Contact Grace Wickerson for more info ■-Jewish Congregation of Venice need volunteers for 2 shifts, 9am-1pm & 1-5pm Sunday February 14th. Email Mrs. O’Mahony to confirm interest Volunteers will help with parking, carrying items from the flea market for customers, and bringing food from the kitchen to the booths. 7 Point Opportunities ■Farmshare February 27 th at Tuttle elementary 8am to 3pm. Volunteers will be distributing fresh produce to disadvantaged families. Contact Victoria Gresbach/ Mira Chauhan to sign up Bring hours sheets to these events so that the volunteer coordinator can sign off on your hours ■Special Olympics February 27th See Mr. Wiley for details
