2 Attention all Airmen Looking for an opportunity to volunteer or a service project for your organization, but can’t commit to a weekly event? Look no further then the Adopt A School program! Calendars will be sent out each month with one time volunteer opportunities and short term service projects. Each event or service project will have a description for service needed and a POC. Make a difference in our community and the life of a child, volunteer in Bossier Parish Schools today! Service Projects Bossier High: School Supplies & Financial Donations for school jackets Charlotte Ann Mitchell Educational Center: School Uniforms- gently worn or new short-sleeved and long-sleeved service dress shirts, men’s & ladies’ ties, dress shoes, white tennis shoes & navy or khaki pants/skirts with belt loops Cope Middle School: School uniforms: navy & khaki pants and navy sweatshirts without hoodies (children’s lg., xl & xxl) Friends of Red River Refuge: Volunteers will serve dual roles as a Red River Refuge volunteer and mentor for high risk disabled youths. Activities include bird walks and outdoor educational programs, recreational events like canoeing and fishing, and other science and service oriented experiences like trail building and tree planting initiatives, and work on an invasive plant species monitoring grant. A new project will be building a Nature Play Area for pre-school and elementary level students in the upcoming year. Our students and other volunteers have played a critical role in projects over the years, and they can see the impact of their service each time they visit the refuge. Every volunteer needs to complete annually a Volunteer Services Agreement. Volunteer for one or more events. Stockwell Elementary: Beautification Project- volunteers are needed to lay bricks (which were purchased and dedicated) around the flag pole, One Time Events Waller Elementary:. Body Walk is a 35’ x 45’ walk-through exhibit representing the human body. Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will participate. 6-8 Volunteers to set up on the afternoon of Jan. 21st Volunteers to run the exhibits (12 if they stay all day, 24 is they stay half day) 6-8 Volunteers to take down on the afternoon of Jan. 22nd Bellaire Elementary: 25 January 2013 – Friday - Body Walk – 6-8 volunteers needed to help with set-up for our annual Body Walk in the morning (approximately 7:00-8:30 a.m.) 6-8 volunteers needed to take down from 2:00-3:30 p.m. Need 6 full day (8:30-2:55) or 12 half day (8:15-11:30 and 11:30-2:45) volunteers to help students in and out of the different stations of the Body Walk (parts of the body). Parkway High School students will be presenters at each of the stations but we could use help monitoring students and helping students move from one station to the next. On January 18th, La New Tech @ Plain Dealing is having a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) day. They are asking for military members to come out that day and discuss how their jobs related to the STEM strands.
