The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act Grant Application McKinney-Vento is a competitive grant that is awarded on a 3 year cycle. The next 3 year cycle will begin in FY2016-2019 Award sizes will vary based on funding available and proposal received.

McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act Program Purpose To address the problems that homeless children and youth have faced in enrolling, attending, and succeeding in school. Under this program, State educational agencies must ensure that each homeless child and youth has access to the same free, appropriate public education, including a public preschool education, as other children. Homeless children and youth should have access to the same challenging student academic achievement standards to which all students are held.

Program Narrative The program narrative must include a three- year tier plan and show growth from year- to- year. Program Priorities: First Priority includes activities to ensure school-age homeless children and youths that are not enrolled or not attending class are identified and provided enrollment, evaluation, placement assistance, and supplementary instructional assistance. Second Priority includes the provision of supplementary educational services to homeless students currently enrolled and attending class to help them achieve state academic content and performance standards.

Training, Information dissemination and outreach: discuss proposed activities designed to increase the understanding and sensitivity of district staff and the community to the needs and educational rights of homeless and runaway children and youth. 9.
