What is CCP? State funded opportunity to earn college credit College- ready students: determined by college Grades 7 -12 Many college course options Public colleges are free Private colleges may include small cost How does this affect HS graduation requirements?

Graduation Requirements  21.5 credits  16 hours of community service hours  Class of 2017, OGT tests  Class of 2018 and beyond: Ohio’s State 7 end of course exams (English I, II; Alg, Geo, Bio, Am. Hist, Govt) *Student must meet with HS counselor to ensure adequate credits are being earned for high school graduation

College Credit Plus Am History or Am Government CCP Course Grade:Ohio Graduation Points: A or B5 C4 D3 Fail or drop course0

Graduate with College Credit  A student can earn up to 30 college credit hours per academic year; includes summer term  Up to120 college credit hours for the entire high school CCP program

Summer Requirements  Beginning summer 2016, CCP will include courses taken during summer  Summer term will apply as the 1 st term of the next school year (2016-17)  Many college summer terms begin in May  Can not use summer classes towards fall athletic eligibility

Athletes  Full-time CCP: must be enrolled in a minimum of 13 credit hours and no more than 15 credit hours  Blended schedule: athlete must be passing five, one credit courses or equivalent per grading period  Phys Ed (.25) does not qualify as one of the five classes

Weighted Grades College courses must be weighted equally to the greatest weight of honors classes, in the same subject area. Receiving a failing grade, a withdraw fail, or incomplete will be calculated into HS GPA Honors Class College Course

Potential Benefits  Expands the curriculum  Allows students to earn college credit before graduating from high school  May help reduce college costs/time spent in college after HS graduation  Allows students to experience college- level course work and college life

Potential Risks/Consequences  Increased responsibility for learning  May impact participation in high school activities/athletics  Possibility of exposure to adult content and information and age differences in college courses  Attendance in college is totally up to the individual student  Student fails or drops later than 14 days after course began, district may seek tuition reimbursement if not economically disadvantaged

Potential Risks/Consequences  Increased time for travel, study, etc.  Possible effects on GPA and class standing  Unable to be on first and third quarter honor roll because grades are not available until completion of each semester  May impact future financial aid eligibility  Beginning collegiate academic transcript

Academic/Social Responsibility  Students are expected to follow the rules and regulations set by the college/university  Students needing support services while participating in CCP should utilize the available support services at the institution such as math, writing, or computer labs  Students are responsible for transportation and any related costs such as parking fees  Students are expected to follow the rules and regulations detailed in the student handbook

Books and Fees  Students are not responsible for the cost of tuition, fees, and textbooks for courses successfully completed through a public post- secondary institution  A private post-secondary institution may charge the student a fee per credit hour for courses taken, which the student is responsible for paying.  Students qualifying for Free/Reduced Lunch program may not be charged.

Scheduling Formula to determine eligible amount of college credits: High School credits x 3. Subtract result from 30  Work with your Eastwood counselor to determine how college courses will be applied towards Eastwood graduation requirements  Determine HS schedule so student can determine college course(s)  Students may not drop a full-year course at Eastwood to enroll in a second semester course at the university

Scheduling  If you choose to drop CCP second semester you must notify your guidance counselor immediately as it may put you in jeopardy of not graduating on time  College school year schedule will be different than Eastwood schedule (Christmas and Spring Breaks do no coincide)

Scheduling Calculate :  Determine student’s number of high school ONLY classes  Multiply that number by 3  Subtract the result from the number 30  Difference is the total number of college credits that CCP student may earn that academic year

Schedule formula Student Schedule at HS shows he/she is here periods 1 – 2 Formula: 1.Taking 2 high school classes X 3 = 6 2.Total College Credit hours 30 – 6 = 24 3.So 24 is the maximum number of college credit hours student can take for the entire academic year

Transferring Credits  Participation does not guarantee a student will be admitted to other colleges/universities  During senior year when student is applying to colleges, the student is responsible for requesting a college transcript that was created while taking CCP courses  Student’s responsibility to contact advisor at college/university of interest to determine how college credits will apply  https://transfercredit.ohio.gov

Application Process Return Intent to Participate Form to the Guidance Office by March 24 th After April 1 st will need permission from superintendent to participate Research and understand college requirements and deadlines Complete CCP admission application

Application Process Bring any required forms to your counselor and request that a transcript be sent Schedule and attend college orientation/advising Bring schedule of college classes to your counselor to make schedule adjustments if needed
