3 Constitution of Jordan Stipulates that the country is a Hereditary monarchy with a parliamentary system. Mandates the separation of the legislative, executive and Judicial branches of Government. Outlines the regulation of the government’s finances & the enforcement and repeal of laws.

4 Legislation & Opinion Bureau Legislation & Opinion Bureau is responsible for studying the draft laws. Every draft law passed by the Senate and the chamber of deputies shall be submitted to the king for ratification. 5 Economic Development Jordan is one of the smallest economies in the Middle East with a population of more than 6 Million. Non-oil producing country with limited resources. Jordan’s economy is dependent on: – Services including tourism – Transport activities – Industry and agriculture

6 Investment Promotion Law This law is the major legal framework that governs the investment environment in Jordan. Sectors that benefit from this Law are: industry, agriculture, hotels, hospitals, maritime, transport and railways, leisure and recreational compounds, convention and exhibition centers, transport and distribution of water, gas and oil, call and contact centers, research and development centers For more information : http://www.jordaninvestment.com

7 Economic Zones There are different economic zones which serve as enabling platforms by – Offering differentiated advantages from specialized business clusters – Industry specific world-class infrastructure – Distinctive tax breaks – Proximity to resources and markets

8 Aqaba Special Economic Zone The Aqaba Special Economic Zone Law no (32) for the Year 2000 – Liberalized, low tax duty-free – Multi–sector development zone ASEZA offers multiple investment opportunities – Strategic location on the Red Sea – Covering an area of 375 km² – Encompassing total Jordanian coastline (27 km) – The sea-ports of Jordan and an international airport

9 Development Areas & Free Zones Each area or estate offers a number of distinctive advantages: – Development Areas – Industrial Estates – Free Zones (Development Areas & Free Zones Law enacted in 2008)

10 Development Areas & Free Zones The Law provides the legal foundation necessary to ensure a business friendly investment and operating environment Allowances for the establishment of Free Zones within the bounds of benefitting areas Streamlined procedures and governance Creating a legislative and regulatory environment aimed at facilitating and serving international and Jordanian investors alike

11 Renewable Energy Law Renewable Energy Law is a key component to the country's National Energy Strategy. –7% of the Kingdom's energy to come from renewable sources by 2015 –10% by 2020 Currently, Jordan imports 96% of its energy at a cost of 20% of its GDP. Many legistlation have been issued in this regards.

12 Nuclear Energy Law  The use of nuclear energy to produce electricity: Jordan is among the highest in the world in dependency on foreign energy sources.  Jordan plans to get 60% of its energy needs from nuclear energy by 2035.

13 Jordan’s Transport Consumes 37% of total energy demand in Jordan. Policies to green the transport in Jordan include : – Revising customs policies on clean fuel and zero emission vehicles – Streamlining public transportation with interchangeable tariffs and routes that best serve employment-intensive areas

14 Agriculture & Water Agricultural sector currently accounts for 71% of water demand and 64% of supply. Only about 5% of the land is considered arable. Convert Salt water into drinking water :the only way to meet the increasing water demands in the country is through desalination of sea water from the Gulf of Aqaba.

15 Waste Management Improve Jordan’s Solid Waste Management –More comprehensive and detailed legislative framework –Full sector strategy Cost recovery rates will need to improve Worldwide, energy savings from recycling range from 24 to 95%, and air pollution savings from 20 to 95%

16 Green Growth Program The Amman Green Growth Program (AGGP) aims at –Improving the urban environment while contributing to the climate agenda –Improving the cost efficiency of municipal services –Mobilizing additional sources of revenues through carbon markets The AGGP city-wide approach to –Emissions reductions –Promotion of low-carbon investments
