Mechanical Drafting Mechanical Drawings are made with the aid of drafting tools or instruments. Drawings are often the only way to explain or show ideas. Drafting is known as a universal language. Drafting uses symbols to accurately describe the size, shape, material, finish and fabrication of a product.

Orthographic Projection Orthographic drawings represent three dimensional objects in three separate views arranged in a standard manner. The objects are drawn on a flat surface having only two dimensions.

Sketching Sketching is a rapid, freehand method of drawing without the use of drawing instruments. Sketching is also a thinking process and a method of communication. A good sketch includes the shape of an object, dimensions, and instructions on how the object can be made.
