4
Implement Abstract, Non-objective and Realism in portraiture Utilize a repetition of shapes, overlapping, change in scale, with shapes entering/leaving the picture plane. Use color relationships/Schemes Create a flow across the entire work of art.
7
Begin With a Digital B&W Photo of yourself. Then……

Logon to a computer using your school ID Open Photoshop cs6 (Type it into the ‘search programs and files’ in the ‘Start’ menu In Photoshop cs6 : See the teacher for the flash drive with images File -Open-Removable Disk-Per __ (look for your period) Use cropping tool & Crop to face (Neck & head/top of head/hair) Image-Image Size-Width= 8.5 inches File-Save As-Desktop-type in your name_color -Save Image-Mode-Grayscale Image-Auto Contrast (See other directions if this doesn’t work) Filter-Filter Gallery-Artistic-Cut Out-Number of Levels- 8 Check to see if you have all your facial features; if not, cancel & see teacher; if so, OK Image-Image Size- 8.5 inches File-Save As-Desktop- Your name_Grayscale GET TEACHER APPROVAL File-Print-HP Laserjet 500 File-Exit-Log off
9
Begin with a B&W digital image of yourself. Manipulate image in Photoshop CS6 & Print Follow directions for using Photoshop in previous slide Identify & outline all sections of value with a fine- tipped sharpie Number the sections from 1 (white) to 8 (black) Use graphite paper to transfer image to tag board: Trace over all details outlined in sharpie
10
Use the same B&W image from the Realistic step. Use a different color marker & trace over general parts of your face Generalize and Simplify the shapes Trace onto the tagboard next to the Realistic portrait
11
Use the same B&W image from the Realistic step. Identify or choose one or two shapes that you like from your portrait. Trace it onto the tagboard next to the Abstract portrait. Re-draw & repeat the shapes is similar ways, larger, smaller, wider, taller etc. Overlap the shapes Organize the shapes so that they repeat and flow behind the Realistic and Abstract portraits. Draw lines to help divide the space behind it.
12
Choose a color scheme: complementary, analogous, split-complement… Plan where each color will be by labeling lightly in pencil on the tagboard *Make sure that NO two adjoining sections are the same color. Paint using tints and shades No ‘Out-of-the-bottle” colors
13
Create an 8 step value scale by painting ‘swatches’ Make flesh tones by mixing RYB + White Add more white for highlights (1-2) Add more red for cheeks, lips (3-4-5) Add tiny amounts of black for shadows (6-7-8) “Paint by Number” Match the numbers written on the photo with your value scale. Adjust where needed
14
Notice that these examples used a different technique than the photoshop method. But, the idea is the same…..
