3 Focus Schools Based on CRCT testing information prior to the 2010-2011 school year, Hartwell Elementary School has been identified as a Title I, focus school. The school was identified as a focus school based on within-school achievement gaps between the highest achieving subgroup and the lowest achieving subgroup. The subgroups that were identified with the largest achievement gaps were White (90.6%) and Student with Disabilities (58.6%).

4 Focus Schools Focus schools are provided Title I, Part A funding to create and operate an additional academic program for students needing additional assistance. This program is the Flexible Learning Program and the plan that the school develops is the Flexible Learning Plan (FLP). Students are identified using academic multiple selection criteria form and are invited to participate in the program based on this form.

5 Focus Schools The purpose of today’s meeting is to review the effectiveness of the 2013- 2014 FLP Program and to design the 2014-2015 FLP Program.

6 REVIEW During the 2013-2014 school year, Hartwell Elementary, operated a Flexible Learning Plan (FLP) program. The academic subject that was targeted was reading. The program served kindergarten through fifth grade students.

7 Delivery Model The FLP program was scheduled during the school day and operated on Tuesdays and Thursdays or Mondays and Wednesdays from January 20 - May 22, 2014. Students were assigned to the FLP class during their connections class.

8 Four highly-qualified, experienced teachers were hired to provide students additional instructional time to master the common core standards in reading.

10 CRCT Results Progress of students in 3 rd, 4 th, and 5 th grades were measured by performance on the 2014 CRCT reading assessment.

26 Proposed subject for FLP The Proposed subject for FLP for the 2014-2015 school year is reading. Explain why the school is making this proposal. Clarify why this subject is being proposed over other subject areas. And add information about scores in ALL core content areas.

Some subgroups in certain subjects are very close to meeting the next performance target which will change the flag from red to yellow or yellow to green. Once FAY is applied, this could change some flags. The subgroups that were identified with the largest achievement gaps are Black (99%) and Student with Disabilities (81%).

29 Proposed design of the FLP program The Proposed design of the FLP program in 2014-2015: September 23, 2014 - May 21, 2015 Tuesdays and Thursdays OR Mondays and Wednesdays for 50 minutes during connections class. Four highly-qualified, experienced educators As we transition from CRCT to Georgia Milestones, we aim to maintain or increase overall current achievement.

30 Suggestions and comments from workshop participants regarding the subject area chosen and the design of the FLP program.

31 The school will notify the parents of students qualifying for participation in the FLP program by a letter with an enrollment form accepting or denying participation in the program attached.
