3. What is a dashboard A representation of data that has been collected for all members of the clinical team Designed to display data in an intuitive and simple format

4. Why are dashboards useful? An effective tool to shift organizational culture. They provide a foundation to recognize successes, understand emerging problems and make changes in response to these problems. They provide insight into clinical data and can be used to determine program viability, identify areas for improvement, monitor change and improvement, and point out where reallocate resources may be necessary. Dashboards display data in a useful and effective way. They are foundational to recognizing successes, identifying and responding to emerging problems.

5. Why use dashboards? To improve: Participation with government and other regulatory reporting requirements (UDS) Payer and accreditation organization requests for information and standards compliance (PCMH, HEDIS) Reporting to administrative boards Monitoring of patient safety and quality of care provided Dashboards are a recommended means of assessing and overseeing an organization’s performance based on quality of care metrics; determined from internal and external sources

6. Goal of using dashboards …track data, improve operational and clinical performance, promote accountability and transparency and shift organizational culture

7. Dashboard Basics Determine Key Objectives for display. Should tie back to your QI Plan and stated goals and objectives for clinical quality improvement. Consider using a Balanced Scorecard approach that displays clinical quality, operational efficiency and financial productivity indicators. Further the indicators are weighted based on organizational goals. This approach is particularly useful to avoid emphasizing one element of quality over another.
