Kindergarten- First Grade- Second Grade Reading and Mathematics Discovery Education Assessments and Teacher Evaluation

Discovery Education Assessments Online assessments given to all students - three times during the year. (IEPs/504s honored) Tests A-B-C… Beginning- Middle- End of Year Results are reported as levels and scale scores For evaluation purposes….Test A performance is compared against Test C performance. Three ways a student can “help” the teacher: a.Maintain a level 3 or higher from A to C OR b.Increase a level from A to C OR c.Demonstrate a year’s growth via scale score

Demonstrating a year’s growth Using their most recent results, Discovery provides actual student performance from across the state and nation. Results are broken down by percentiles. Santa Rosa uses 50 th percentile as the required amount of growth to show a gain. Note: Each level has a unique number of required points to show a year’s growth. See Grade Two Mathematics in next slide.

Challenges 1.Equity – Class level, school level, district level 2.Validity – various criterion assessments used 3.Number of students attached to various assessments and percentages they count 4.VAM and actual impact for special considerations like ESE 5.Defaults and system management

Additional Details - Santa Rosa Process 1.District evaluation committee determines student assessments, percentages and scales used for employee evaluations. 2.Employees are assigned Job Codes and Codes are each aligned with an “evaluation formula”. 3.Student data is compiled, calculated, and applied to the eval. formula for evaluation assessment scores (1,2,3 or 4). 4.If the employee’s student population has no test scores for an assessment then a default is applied. 5. Finance IT staff do the following calculations for each employee: Apply each assessment’s % to assessment result - based on evaluation formula. Apply each job code’s percentage to assessment result - based on hours/day. Compute employee’s overall Evaluation Score (50% of employee’s evaluation) 6.True North Logic (TNL) Imports and Use by Employees ** Details related to system and process available from district upon request

True North Logic Details 1.Imports data into our Professional Growth System (PGS). 2.Compiles and maintains remaining 50% of the employee’s evaluation in PGS. 3.Combines all data and computes overall evaluation score. 4.Presents this data for each employee’s verification/acceptance.
