1 Ideologies that developed in response to Classical Liberalism Social 30-1 Lab Class Learning Objective: To solidify understandings of objectives 2.5 and 2.6, and to prepare for learning about 2.7 1.Paired activity. Use the computers (or not if you choose) to make visual representations of the Industrial revolution that will be added to our timeline in room M. Individual Research. Suggested time 40 minutes. Use the internet and other sources to research the following ideas and people. They each relate to Learning objective 2.7. They are the ideologies and people that responded to the establishment of classical liberalism in society. Not everyone was happy with the way things were when liberalism took hold. Classical Conservativism Who was Edmund Burke? What was classical conservatism? Socialism What were the ideas of Socialism? Who was Robert Owen? What did he try and do? Marxism Who was Karl Marx? What was the Ideology that he suggested in response to the changes in society? What are the 10 points of the manifesto? Who was Friedrech Engles?

Owen transformed life in New Lanark with ideas and opportunities which were at least a hundred years ahead of their time. Child labour and corporal punishment were abolished, and villagers were provided with decent homes, schools and evening classes, free health care, and affordable food.
