Everyone has some kind of faith… Faith and belief is at work when we cross a street….we hope we will not be hit by a car.

Faith is at work when we text a friend… We trust that our friend will receive the message and hope that she responds…

Some people put their faith in political leaders, material things, physical strength and beauty but… Sometimes leaders are corrupt, money and things don’t last forever, and beauty or health can fade. The Gospel of Mark states, “Your faith has made you well”

Faith is a theological virtue through which we believe in God and all that God revealed. Faith is a… t_________________ virtue. T__________________ means “pertaining or pointing towards _____.” Virtue means: _______ behavior or positive lifestyle choices. A person of faith… B___________ in God and all that God has revealed. T__________ in God even through difficult t______ or even in times of per____________.

Individuals from the Old Testament who believed and had faith in God’s promise like… Abraham and Moses… believed God’s promise could be trusted. (p. 6). Reflect: Can you name one way Abraham was faithful to God? Can you name one way Moses was faithful to God? What were they both looking forward to?

However, Moses and Abraham did not live long enough to see Jesus the fulfillment of God’s promise to his people. Jesus… fulfills the promises of God and offers us a relationship with God through him. In John’s Gospel Jesus said, “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.” (John 14:9). (p. 7) Reflection: What do you think Jesus meant by this statement? In other words, in what ways does knowing Jesus reveal who God is? Name 3 ways Jesus reveals the Father.

It is the Holy Spirit, working in us, who enables us to believe in Jesus. (p. 7) St. Paul said, “No one can say ‘Jesus is Lord’ except by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (1 Cor. 12:3) Jesus is the mediator between God and humans. A mediator is one who serves as intermediary, to intercede and/or reconcile differences. Can you explain a time when you or someone else acted as a mediator on yours or someone else’s behalf? How important was faith in that situation? How important was trust?

The Gospel of John says… “No one has ever seen God,” but Jesus makes God known to us. Reflection: Name one way Jesus has revealed God’s presence in your life or what you’ve observed in someone else’s life.

HOMEWORK: Due on Tuesday, January 10. Read pages 7 – 9. Answer on loose leaf paper. 1.Name the three dimensions of faith.
