Day One 1. diligent (adj.) - constant in effort to accomplish something Ex: You should be diligent about studying your vocab words and you will learn them well.

Day Two 2. fable (n.) – a short tale to teach a moral lesson, often with animals or inanimate objects as characters Ex: Animal Farm is an example of a fable as it uses animals to teach a moral lesson.

Day Three 3. ignominious (adj.) – humiliating Ex: When the boxer got knocked out in the first round, everyone knew it was an ignominious defeat for him.

Day Four 4. impending (adj.) – about to happen Ex: The animals on Animal Farm knew the consequences of an impending war with the humans.

Day Five 5. indignation (n.) – a strong displeasure or anger Ex: Many of the animals secretly began to feel a sense of indignation toward Napoleon but kept it to themselves.

Day Six 6. satire (noun) –a technique used by writers to expose and criticize foolishness and corruption of an individual or a society by using humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule Ex. The TV show The Simpsons uses satire to teach lessons about society.

Day Eight 8. obstinate (adj.) – stubborn and inflexible attitude Ex: Mollie’s obstinate attitude about the farm led to her leaving Animal Farm and going with the humans.

Day Nine 9. procure (v.) – to obtain or get by care, effort, or the use of special means Ex: Napoleon was trying to procure firearms to prepare for a second attack by Mr. Jones and the neighboring farmers.

Day Ten 10. proletariat (n.) – the working class; the lowest class Ex: Boxer is hard-working and a great symbol of the proletariat on Animal Farm.
