10.1.9 – Analyze the interdependence existing among the body systems. All pictures are from Google pictures. COM
4
1. Identify parts of the circulatory system. 2. Describe the function of the parts of the circulatory system. 3. Explain ways to take care of the circulatory system.
5
Explain three ways how the circulatory system is like an transportation system. Trucks, Buses, and cars! This should be one paragraph!
6
Cardiovascular system Pulmonary system Systemic system Arteries Veins Capillaries blood
7
Cardiovascular system – organs and tissues that transport essential materials to body cells Pulmonary system – Flow of blood from the heart to the lungs and back to the heart. Systemic system – Flow of blood to the body tissues except the lungs.
8
Arteries – Vessels that carry blood away from the heart to other parts of the body. Veins - Vessels that carry blood from the body back to the heart. Capillaries – Tiny tubes that carry blood from the arteries to the cells, and back to the veins.
10
50% Water 45% Red Blood cells 4% Plasma with Substances 1% Leukocytes (WBC) and Platelets
11
Transporters of Oxygen Carbon Dioxide RBC Lack a nucleus Contain hemoglobin Disk-shaped RBC are produced in red bone marrow of ribs, humerus, femur, sternum, and other long bones Lives for 120 days Old RBC are destroyed in liver and spleen
12
WBC fight infection Attack foreign substances Less abundant Large cells Some live for months Most just a few days Several types ALL contain nuclei
13
Break in Capillary Wall Blood vessels injured. Clumping of Platelets Platelets clump at the site and release thromboplastin. Thromboplastin converts prothrombin into thrombin.. Clot Forms Thrombin converts fibrinogen into fibrin, which causes a clot. The clot prevents further loss of blood.. PLATELETS are for CLOTTING blood Cell fragments Produced in bone marrow Short life span (1 week) Fibrin (sticky network of protein fibers) Form a web trapping blood cells
14
There are four blood types. A, B, AB, and O. 1. A+, A- 2. B+, B- 3. Ab+, Ab- 4. 0+, O- ~ All blood have Rh ~ The Rh determined the blood type.

The cycle then repeats itself.
23
Hypertension – High blood pressure. Stroke – blood clots that block a vessel. Heart attack – blockage of flow of blood to the heart. Arteriosclerosis – arteries harden, reducing blood flow. Anemia – Low level of hemoglobin (protein that binds to oxygen in RBC.) Leukemia disease with extra WBC are made. Hemophilia – disease that does not have blood plasma substance to help blood clot.
24
Limit fat intake in your foods – Example: McDonalds. Physical Activity – 30 minutes or more a day keeping your heart rate above 150 bpm Avoid tobacco Manage stress

This is Dr. YOUR NAME reporting on the circulatory system. First paragraph: Analyze how the circulatory system needs the other systems for example digestive, and nervous system. Second paragraph: Describe the parts and function of the circulatory. ( Use the vocabulary words!) Third paragraph: How do we care for the circulatory system. In Conclusion the circulatory system …
