2. 1 John 5:18 The necessity for residence inside God’s Power System (GPS); to guard your soul from sin.

4. Three parts to verse 18: 1) The Principle, 2) The Precedent, 3) The Protection.

5. 1) The Principle: “We know that anyone who has been born of God does not sin.”

6. At the moment we are born again and regenerated our sins are forgiven and we stand inside GPS.

7. The new nature in us cannot sin because it is the nature of Christ. 1 John 3:9; 5:18

8. 2) The Precedent: “But He who was born from God.”

9. Here we have a contrast of two powers that can affect the believer.

10. 18b, “The born from the God guards him.” {versus} 18c, “The evil one does not touch him.”

11. Therefore, “born from God” is not referring to the believer but to Jesus Christ as previously identified in, 1 John 5:1, 4-6, 9, 11-13.

12. The contrast is between two entities, “the born from God”, Jesus Christ, who protects you and “the evil one”, Satan, who is trying to get his hands on you.

13. Our precedence is Jesus Christ, who perpetually resided inside GPS.

14. GENNAO - Aorist, Passive, Participle, views the incarnation, hypostatic union, in its entirety from the viewpoint of living inside GPS.

15. Through the virgin birth Jesus Christ received the action of the verb, residence inside GPS, and lived His life impeccably by means of the Word and Spirit.

16. Our Lord in His impeccability did not sin inside GPS, and neither does the believer.

17. EK THEOS - from God, is a reference to our Lord Jesus Christ at the time of His incarnation and hypostatic union.

18. The precedent is Jesus Christ remaining impeccable inside GPS. The Prototype Spiritual Life.

19. 3) Protection: “Keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him.”

20. TEREO - Present, Active, Indicative, “keep, observe, to watch over, to guard or to protect”, perpetually. See John 14:21-23.

21. This is the concept of our temporal (in time) security. Jesus Christ protects us by His Word and Spirit = GPS.

22. The believer is protected eternally through positional truth and temporally by the provision of the operational type GPS.

23. HO PONEROS means “toilsome, bad or the evil one” referring to Satan.

24. Satan is the ruler of this world, the inventor of the Cosmic System.

25. Yet OUX APTO. He does not fasten to, lay hold of or touch the believer inside GPS.

26. The Customary Present denotes what habitually does not occur when the believer resides and functions inside GPS.

27. He is hindered from negatively influencing you through the Cosmic System when you are inside GPS.

28. 1 John 5:18, “We have learned that anyone who has been born from God does not sin (while inside GPS), but He who was born from God (Jesus Christ; incarnation, virgin birth) protects him (the believer residing in GPS), and the evil one (Satan) does not touch him.”

29. Compare with 1 Peter 2:21-25; Ezek 34:11-15.
