General Info. And History Established 1867 as the Illinois Industrial University Renamed the University of Illinois in 1885 It is a public research-intensive university the second oldest public university in the state is a founding member of the Big Ten Conference The University is in the twin cities of Champaign and Urbana Ranked 13th among public universities in the nation

Applying and Requirements Two Ways to Apply: Apply online/Submit a paper application to the university Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR) – it is online form on which applicant provides information found on official high school transcript, like courses taken, level of courses taken, and grades. Do not accept letters of recommendation. ACT/SAT score vary on program entering, but usually lowest is 25/1170 respectively Two essays, extracurricular activities, etc. Deadline is January 2, 2013

International Programs and Studies 1,939 Study abroad students in 2009-2010 participating in more than 100 programs and affiliations in more than 60 countries; ranked 19th in the nation's "Top 20 Research Institutions" in number of students studying abroad. 8,057 International students in 2011 from 115 countries; #2 in most recent ranking of the nation's "Top 20 Research Institutions" in number of international students.
