Questions What draws your attention to the photo? The hands draws my attention first. Then my attention jumps to the words on the screen. What’s the first thing you notice? The first thing I notice is the picture then the words. How does this photo make you feel? This picture makes me curious. It makes me wonder what the picture was made for, What do you think this photo is for? This photo was taken for child abuse. The meaning behind the photo is to ‘Shatter The Silence’ of child abuse. What this means is to try and help people to talk about their experiences.

Picture Layout The Foreground contains the words “Shatter The Silence.” It also contains a little boy with hands covering his face. Why do you think the photographer did that? The hands over the eyes represents the pain the boy sees. The little boy doesn't need to see what is happening. The cover the fear in the boys eyes The hands over the mouth represents the ‘silent oath’ all abusers seem to take. The hand over the boys forehead is supposed to represent the mental problems they will have to face after being abused. The Background is black. It helps to have the words stand out and the picture of the little boy.

Appeal Pathos: This picture appeals to your emotions. When you look at this picture it makes you confused. It makes you wonder why the picture is like it is. What do you think the photographer was thinking when he took this photo? Logos: it also appeals to your logic. Everyone has either heard about child abuse or knows someone who has been abused.

Background The photographer was kept as anonymous. August 23, 2010 a brother finally admitted to molesting his sister. The little girl told her parents that her brother had done this to her, but her parents never did anything about it, because her brother said she was lying. They didn’t know who to believe and they didn’t know how to handle it so they chose to believe it wasn’t happening.

Juxtaposition The words and the picture is being juxtaposed. The words say shatter the silence but the picture has hands covering the boys mouth.

Audience The audience is for anyone who wants to learn about Child Sexual Abuse, (CSA) and anyone who has experienced it or knows someone who has.
