Song Qingling (1893-1981) married Dr SunZhongshan in 1915. She was the vice president of the People’s Republic for many years. She busied herself with various welfare activities, raging from heading the Women’s Federation to a number of committees involving children.

Marie Curie (1867-1934) was born in Poland, moved to Paris and studied chemistry and physics there. She married Pierre Curie and together they studied radioactive materials and discovered radium. In 1911 she received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

Pearl S.Buck (1892-1973) was born in the USA but grew up in Zhejiang province after her parents moved to China in 1895. She first learnt Chinese and later taught English. From 1910 to 1914 she studied in America and returned to China. In 1931 she wrote her best known novel,The Good Earth. She won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1938.

Mother Teresa of Calcutta (1910- 1997) was a world famous Catholic nun. From the age of 18 she worked in India to help the poor. For more than 30 years she took care of people who were often mentally of physically disabled. She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. In 2003, she was honoured with the name of Blessed Teresa.
