Strengthening Capacities for Land governance in Africa Overall Objective: “Strengthen Human and Institutional Capacities for realizing sustainable land policies in Africa” Partners: LPI (ECA, AU, AfDB); BMZ/GIZ; World Bank Funding by BMZ, EU

SLGA Action/Result Areas 1.Enhance training and education capacities in the field of land policy and management 2.Strengthening research/analytical capacity as well as knowledge exchange 3.Repository for Data to enhance Monitoring and Evaluation of land governance 4.Institutional and technical Strengthening in support of/amplify achievements of 1,2,3 above – Through establishment of NELGA( Network of Excellence on Land Governance)

Objectives &Key Outputs 1)Undertake a curricula assessment and Institutional mapping Curricula assessment and Institutional mapping report Guidelines for curriculum Development 2)Establish a Network of Excellence on Land Governance in Africa Recommendations on NELGA Coordinating university and thematic lead universities/ research institutions (Based on the assessment undertaken) Roadmap for establishment/actualization of NELGA strategy, business plan and M&E framework (MEF) NELGA and LPI secretariat staff recruited

Progress made in the establishment of NELGA Curricula assessment and mapping of institutions undertaken Mapping of institution undertaken Several planning consultation meetings held MOU Signed Governance Structure in place DAAD Scholarship programme under discussion 100 Scholarships on land governance Initial 20 to be offered in 2016 Eastern and Southern Africa preliminary validation of institutions undertaken E/Africa- Ardhi, Nairobi, Bahir Dar S/Africa- University of Western Cape/PLAAS, Namibian University of Science and Technology
