3
Pre-pilots: Strategy for engaging the companies & selecting the team - draw on in-house experience and resources (companies we worked with before); - rely on the experience of our local experts, in engaging with the companies; - companies which have, according to their occupational medicine expert, alcohol-related issues; - highly motivated companies; - companies which usually invest in staff development; Pilot Interventions - Interim Workshop, Berlin 8-9.11.2012
4
Pre-pilots: Strategy for engaging the companies & selecting the team Why this approach? - Excellent results in the past (we worked in the West Region-4 counties with around 60 companies); - The concept behind this type of work is already clear to the local experts; - Limited time to organize the pilots -> the need to work with previous contacts; - Limited resources to implement the pilots. Pilot interventions: Findings – so far Alcohol policy: alcohol testing, no alcohol at employees` events 3 of the companies use the alcohol consumption test constantly (Retim, Zoppas, TRW); 2 of them have a very strict policy in case of alcohol consumption, i.e. they fire people failing the test (Zoppas, TRW); for 2 of the companies (Zoppas & TRW), each accident leads to on-the- spot alcohol testing -> 3 people have been fired in Sept./ Oct.; Employees are aware of these regulations (periodical informations); Being local branches of international companies (with benchmarking procedures between various branches in place): very important for managers to pay attention to these problems -> for their own reporting and hierarchical evaluation; Pilot Interventions - Interim Workshop, Berlin 8-9.11.2012
18
Pilot interventions: Findings – so far Alcohol policy: alcohol testing, no alcohol at employees` events High competition: putting people out of production is difficult: it has been suggested to directly link the end line survey with the information and education campaigns; Overall attitude: alcohol consumption management is not their problem, i.e. they supervise and implement disciplinary measures but they don`t offer support or referral to support services; Staff involved so far: OSH staff deal with the problem – HR staff no role as of yet; the GP, somewhere in the middle – ex. TRW and Zoppas: have an around-the-clock GP in house; Pilot Interventions - Interim Workshop, Berlin 8-9.11.2012
