6 Personal Pronouns 1 st person: I, me, mine, we, us, our, 2 nd person: you, your, yours 3 rd person: he, him, is, she, her, hers, it, its, they, them, their, theirs Pronoun: a word that is used in place of a noun or other pronoun Other Pronouns This, that, those, who, which, all, one, any, both, such, some, most, no one, nothing, few

7 Modifies or describes a noun or pronoun. Answers these questions:

8 Example Adjectives b What kind? gray, Mexican, stupid, lowest b Which one?either, next, those, that, last b How many?all, five, one, some, fewer, more

9 A word that expresses action or a state of being. Otherwise helps to make a statement Every sentence MUST have a verb…otherwise, it is not a sentence!

10 Kinds of Verbs b Action verbs express mental or physical action. b Linking verbs make a statement by connecting the subject with a word that describes or explains it. He rode the horse to victory. He has been sick.

11 Example Verbs b Helping Verbs:can, could, must, will, would, did, had, should b Action Verbs:write, go, run, sit, receive, remember, think, know b Linking Verbs:be, is, am, have been, can (State of being)be, could be, being

12 Modifies a verb, an adjective, or another adverb. Answers these questions Where? When? How? To what extent?

13 A preposition is a word that shows the relationship of a noun or a pronoun to another word. The word or word group that the preposition introduces is its object. They received a postcard from Bobby telling about his trip to Canada.

15 The conjunction A conjunction is a word that joins words or groups of words. for and but or nor yet so F.A.N.B.O.Y.S.

16 The interjection is an exclamatory word that expresses emotion Goodness! What a cute baby! Wow! Look at that sunset!
