The Importance of Signs & Wonders
2
Signs & wonders reveal the nature of God John 3:2 "Sir, we know that God has sent you to teach us. You could not work these miraculous signs, unless God were with you."
3
Signs & wonders reveal the nature of God Hebrews 1:3 The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.
4
Signs & wonders help people hear from God Acts 8:6 When the crowds heard Philip and saw the miraculous signs he did, they all paid close attention to what he said.
5
Signs & wonders expose sin and bring people to repentance Luke 5:8 Simon Peter, when he saw it, fell to his knees before Jesus. "Master, leave. I'm a sinner and can't handle this holiness. Leave me to myself."
6
Signs & wonders expose sin and bring people to repentance John 15:24 “If I had not done among them what no-one else did, they would not be guilty of sin. But now they have seen these miracles, and yet they have hated both me and my Father.”
7
Signs & wonders bring courage Psalm 78:4 We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD, his power, and the wonders he has done...7 Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands.
8
Signs & wonders help people obey God Exodus 4:4 "Pick it up by the tail!" the LORD told him. And when Moses did this, the snake turned back into a walking stick. Exodus 4:8 Then the LORD said, " If no one believes either of these miracles, take some water from the Nile River and pour it on the ground. The water will immediately turn into blood."
9
Signs & wonders are the key to the sinful cities of the world Matthew 11:21 “If the miracles that took place in your towns had happened in Tyre and Sidon, the people there would have turned to God long ago. They would have dressed in sackcloth and put ashes on their heads.”
10
Signs & wonders reveal God’s glory John 2:11 This was Jesus' first miracle, and he did it in the village of Cana in Galilee. There Jesus showed his glory, and his disciples put their faith in him. Habakkuk 2:14 The earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.
11
Signs & wonders direct people to give glory to God Psalm 145:4 Generation after generation stands in awe of your work; each one tells stories of your mighty acts.
12
Signs & wonders affirm who Jesus is John 10:37 “Don’t believe me unless I do what my Father does. But if I do it, even though you do not believe me, believe the miracles, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.”
13
Signs & wonders affirm who Jesus is Matthew 11:3 “Are you the one who was to come, or should we expect someone else?” Matthew 11:4 Jesus replied, “Go back and report to John what you hear and see: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor.”
14
Signs & wonders are a better basis of faith than reason 1 Corinthians 2:4 When I talked with you or preached, I didn't try to prove anything by sounding wise. I simply let God's Spirit show his power. That way you would have faith because of God's power and not because of human wisdom.
15
Hebrews 2:4 God also testified to the good news by signs, wonders and various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.
16
1 Corinthians 14:1 Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy.
