FTTH Networks’ Planning Remarks
A Fiber To The Home (FTTH) Network design and implementation includes a significant number of parameters that have to be seriously taken into account before the final decision is taken Due to the magnitude of the investment every, even the slightest, decision or rule regarding network planning, implementation and maintenance can highly influence the result (both Capex and Opex)
30
Technical – Economical Debates
Point to Point or Shared Fiber Networks (Active Ethernet or xPON) ? Active Equipment on the field (cabinets) or in the Central Office ? How many users per CO or per outdoor aggregation point ? How many aggregation points ? Use of multiducts or plain old duct ? Blown or pulled fiber cable solution ? How many fibers per building/ user ? Vertical cabling should be made indoor or outdoor ? What is the ideal depth of the trenches ?
31
Technical – Economical Debates
THERE ARE NO GENERALLY APPLICABLE RESPONSES !!! Every solution has to be customised upon customer needs and the relevant regulatory, market, competition and legal environment. Technical and Economical business planning has to be made in parallel and be highly correlated to each other
