3 WEPAN’s Organizational Structure Founded in 1990, non-profit 501(c3) Supported by three university centers: Purdue University Stevens Institute of Technology University of Michigan 600 members representing 220 engineering colleges, companies and organizations. Led by a 13-member board of directors from industry and academia. www.WEPAN.org

4 Programs & Initiatives Pre-College Level –Making the Connection: Grades 3-12 –EXITE - Summer Programs: Grades 6-8 –What Do Engineers Do?: Grades 6-12 College Level –Increasing Access for Women in Engineering Seminars & Curriculum –Training Curriculum for Mentors and Mentees –Undergraduate Engineering Experience Survey –Faculty for the Future.org –Achieving Success in Academia

5 Making the Connection To increase awareness among students and teachers in grades 3-12 about engineering. Funded by Lucent Technologies Foundation

6 Making the Connection Target group: Grades 3/4, 5/6, 7/8, 9/10, 11/12 7000 students: 60% females and 40% minorities Develop, test, and disseminate13 engineering-based activities, and presenter’s guide. Activity topics: sports, environment, communication Presenters: engineers, engineering students; WIE/WISE program staff, and classroom teachers. Activities based on national technology standards.
