HelpAge in Ukraine Started operations in 2014 following the humanitarian crisis in Eastern Ukraine. 1 coordination office in Kiev (CD, Technical Team, HR, Finance, Admin and Logistics). 2 field offices one in Slavyansk and Severodonetsk. 32 staffs in Ukraine programme. 300 Social Workers and Volunteers. Location of operation are: Luhansk and Donetsk oblasts. Direct implementation. 2

Who are target beneficiaries? 3 Older men and women -IDPs Older man with a stroke or spinal cord injury needing help to sit up in bed and eat Older women with mild dementia Old man with polio, from his youth walking with crutches Grandmother looking after her son’s 3 children Old woman who lives alone and is far from basic services Deaf grand father being cared by his grandson

Home Based Care Red Cross Red Crescent defines community- based home care as help and support for older people who are in need of care and/or nursing and who are living at home. They may live alone or with their family members. Home care can be support from informal carers, as well as the older people themselves. Informal carers may be relatives, but may also be friends and neighbours. 7

What HelpAge expects to achieve through HBC Keep older people as healthy and independent as possible. Support carer and family. Advise on aids/assistive devices for daily living. Provide specific support for older people with disability. Address psychological wellbeing and isolation. Provide information on available services in community. 10

Community Based Initiative - PSS Facilitated by HelpAge Social Workers and Volunteers within communities. They organise older people to: Share experience and discuss everyday concerns. Facilitate discussions on healthy life styles Facilitate discussions on independent living. Share information and contacts on services. Provide updates on what’s happening in the communities etc. 12

Selection Criteria for CT Beneficiaries Single or double headed household (over 60 years of age) with no other person in the household. A household with a person over 60 years of age who is bed-ridden/requires significant assistance to complete their daily activities. A household (over 60 years of age) which has structural damage to the roofs, walls or it is unsafe to live in. A household where the head/heads of the household are over 60 years of age and there are children below 18years old (i.e. parents are not living with them and older people are primary care-givers). 15

Inclusion – Advocacy and Policy Influencing Chairing of the Age and Disability Technical Working Group Promoting the implementation and use of the “Minimum Standards on Age and Disability Inclusion” Provision of Technical Support to the Clusters and working groups on mainstreaming “Age and Disability” Training of humanitarian agencies on how to integrate “Age and Disability within their response” 16
