28. In The Odyssey by Homer, Odysseus is a tragic hero because he is too curious, which gets his men killed and causes him a rougher journey home. When Odysseus encounters the Cyclops, he lets his curiosity get the better of him and this causes the deaths of several crew members. Odysseus shows his curiosity when he says, “I wished to see the caveman, what he had to offer- no pretty sight it turned out for my friends” (900). This shows that Odysseus would rather see the Cyclops than have his men survive. Odysseus’s tragic flaw is that he would rather get to see the Cyclops and how he lives than to make sure his crew makes it back safely. Another example of his dangerous curiosity is... Odysseus’s need to explore the unknown is a great downfall to his crew and his quest to return home.
