ESW ICT-Level 2 Assignment 1  Create a newsletter for the Welsh Assembly Government on preparing for an interview for 16-24 year olds in an economic depression. This should be between 2 and 3 pages of A4.

Create a plan – a bulleted list, see the example below:-   I need to research on the internet for- subjects see below. I need to use an advanced search and say whether the websites were reliable ones and understand the issues relating to copyright   I need to create a spreadsheet to enter unemployment figures. I will use Excel to do this.   I must create at least one draft of the spreadsheet and use suitable formulae such as max, min average and today   I must make sure I sort my spreadsheet and develop it as a table.   I need to copy the final spreadsheet into my newsletter   I need to create a draft newsletter and make sure I use level 2 features such as columns, page numbers, header, footers, change formatting of bullete, text wrap, borders etc. I will use Word to create the newsletter   I must make sure my final newsletter is error free and fit for purpose   I need to show evidence of saving   I need to show evidence of backing up   I need to complete a review an review the process of the assignment. What went well, what didn’t go so well. What were my ICT skills like?   I will follow healthy, safe and secure procedures throughout the assignment

Undertake ICT research  Use an advanced search-use google advanced search.  Find out what a newsletter looks like.  Find at least 3 websites that give information on preparing for an interview. Please choose ones that are reliable, for example.gov websites or those that have a good reputation  Comment on the copyright status of the websites  Find at least 4 or five images that will support your comments. These should be good quality pictures, not pixelated.  Your evidence should be print screened and saved in an appropriate folder on your hard- drive. (Don’t forget to back up on a usb or email to your college email account

Create a first draft of your newsletter  When you have collected sufficient research, start writing your newsletter.  First draft-Keep it basic-do not change fonts, add columns, bullets or anything else. Just type up the information.  Add some images but do not format them in any way-PRINT and SAVE to your hard drive.

Create drafts of your spreadsheet  Enter the data from the non ICT source. Keep the formatting simple- no bold, colour etc. SAVE and PRINT  The second draft- add formulae, borders, shading, merge cells, change font size, wrap text etc. Also sort the spreadsheet-Spellcheck, Save and PRINT  Print a copy of your formulae in formulae view. Insert this draft into the second draft of the newsletter

Second draft of the Newslettter  This now needs to look like a newsletter, add columns, bullets, headers, footers, page numbers, justification etc.  The images should now be re-sized, bordered, rotated etc. Do not change your images, they must be the ones from the first draft.  Add the second draft of the spreadsheet.  Send this draft by email to your tutor for feedback-cmorgan@bridgend.ac.uk

Emails  As mentioned previously you must send the second copy of your newsletter to your tutor for feedback. Hence you must attach the document.  Please enter a description in the subject field and write formally within the email- no text language  You must also cc the email to your own email account as a backup.  Once you have had a reply from your tutor, please respond thanking her for the advice.  You must print screen each stage. These have to be included in your portfolio

The final Newsletter  Review the email from your tutor which will give you feedback, please make sure you take this into account.  The final version must be professionally produced including sufficient level 2 criteria.  Please note it will only be acceptable once your tutor has marked it and told you it has met the criteria

Saving and backing up  Once you have saved all your files, print screen the contents of your folders and print.  Print screen your backups as well. The print screen should show the files as well as the folders.

Write a review  You must cover the whole process of the assignment.  Do you think your newsletter is fit for purpose and audience. Does it look professional, does it include the relevant information. Is it easy to read? Could the newsletter be distributed as it stands. Consider copyright issues here. Would anything have to be changed if you were actually producing this in the “real world”.  What were your strengths and weaknesses in using ICT
