5 OSHA and ANSI The Occupational Safety And Health Administration Enforces the Federal Regulations The American National Standards Institute Develops Safety “Standards” Scaffold Industry Association (SIA) 02/28/2001 - Significance of ANSI standards with respect to OSHA requirements, specifically A92.6-1999. (www.OSHA.gov) A number of ANSI and other industry consensus standards have been adopted as OSHA requirements. 29 CFR 1926.453 Aerial Lifts (previously numbered §1926.556), which is part of OSHA's construction scaffolding standard, Part 1926 Subpart L, is one example where OSHA incorporated by reference an ANSI standard. This provision, which was originally promulgated under the Construction Safety Act and then adopted as an OSHA standard in 1971, requires that aerial lifts be designed and constructed in accordance with ANSI A92.2-1969, titled Vehicle Mounted Elevating and Rotating Work Platforms.

6 Operation and Safety Manuals are considered integral parts of the aerial work platform. THEY MUST BE KEEP ON THE AERIAL PLATFORM in the storage compartment. *ANSI/SIA A92.6-2006 First page
