1 Elementary Coordinator’s Report January 13, 2014

2 2 nd Semester Initiatives  Parent-Teacher Team  Community Volunteers  Title One Night  After School Clubs

3 Parent-Teacher Team  Description:  The Parent-Teacher Team would be established to enlist the participation of interested teachers, parents and community members to share ideas, resources, direction and support for Pender elementary.  Timeline:  January-discuss concept with Board of Education  February-survey parents, teachers and community members to gauge interest, need and scope of involvement  March-enlist committee member selection process  April-draft committee policies  May-establish meeting timeline for 2014-2015 school year

4 Community Volunteer Program  Description:  Community volunteers work in collaboration with elementary programs to enhance learning, provide practice and support while establishing adult-child relationships.  Timeline:  January-discuss program with Board of Education and elementary staff  February-develop areas of need and enlist volunteer support  March-May-implement volunteer program

5 Title One Night  Description:  Parents and community members are invited to attend a program designed to provide information about reading and writing support at the elementary level. Attendees will learn activities to work with their children in grades preschool through sixth grade.  Timeline:  March, 2014 from 6:00-7:30

6 After School Clubs  Description:  Interested staff members will be invited to conduct after school clubs in curricular areas for students in grades 3-6. The focus of these academic clubs will be on enrichment activities, cooperative learning, student involvement and FUN!  Time:  4:00-4:45-Tuesday and Thursday  Duration:  4 weeks  Clubs:  Math  Reading  Writing  Media  Art

7 Winter Benchmark Tests  MAPS  Letters with results mailed to parents  AIMSweb  January 14 & 15  K & 1-Tests of Early Numeracy/Tests of Early Literacy  2-6-Reading fluency, Comprehension & Math  Reading  Winter benchmarking for students receiving LLI program with Mrs. Farrington

8 NeSA Writing Test  4 th Grade Students  January 28 & 29  40 minute testing session each day

9 Upcoming Testing Windows  2014 NeSA Writing Window: January 20-February 7, 2014  ELDA - English Language Development Assessment Window: February 10-March 21, 2014  2014 NeSA Reading-Math-Science Window: March 24-May 2, 2014

10 Staff Training  Jan. 3-C4L Training NeSA test preparation Allows teachers to create assessments for classroom use. Assessments are built from a warehouse of test items, which are aligned to Nebraska standards.  Teaching Strategies-GOLD-Jan. 24 Preschool Observation techniques Planning for Home Visits

11 Staff Training  Principal’s Meeting-Jan. 28  Student Assistance Team & Multi-Tiered Systems of Support Training  ESU #1-Feb. 11  Attended by SAT coordinator and reading interventionist  Paraeducator Conference  Annual conference on Feb. 17 in Kearney, NE
