The Vikings (from 800 to 1050 A.D.) carried on seining after cod, salmon and herring Ever since the 12th century, dried fish (stockfish) has been an important export product The fisheries has been the very basis of life and culture on the coast, and the fishing industry is still one of Norway’s most important export industries.
