Eligible Students pp.1-2 Students who are enrolled in Grade 8 Exceptions Students who participate in the NC EXTEND1

Estimated Administration Time pp. 4-5 As long as students are engaged and working and the maximum time allowed (4 hours*) has not been reached, they must be given time to complete the test. Students who complete the test during the scheduled time MUST NOT be allowed to remain in the room with students who require maximum time. * Except for students with documented accommodations for extra time

Before Testing pp.7-12 Read Testing Code of Ethics. (Appendix) Train Teachers. –Conduct special training for testing students with accommodations. Read and follow test security procedures.

Roving Proctors pp. 10-11 May use roving proctors for accommodation rooms if test administrator is NOT teacher-of-record Schedule roving proctors so that each room receives the same amount of time (beginning, middle, end) No roving proctors for regular EOG administrations

Prepare the Testing Environment pp. 11-12 Remove instructional materials. Remove Test Taking Strategies. Ensure each room has a Testing: Do Not Disturb sign. Ensure the environment is well-lighted, quiet, comfortable. Ensure there is enough work space. Ensure the availability of spare laptops in each room.

Prepare Students for Testing pp.12-13 Test format –Drag and drop –Multiple choice –Questions with more than one correct answer Released forms Complete online assessment tutorial for EACH online-administered assessment at least once prior to testing day.

Online Assessment Tutorial pp. 12-13 Students must complete the online assessment tutorial before the testing day. NHCS require that each student listen to the standard script as opposed to watching the video (p. 12)

Prohibited Items in Testing Rooms pp. 14-15 Electronic devices for students AND adults –Cell phones, smartwatches, smart pens Personal belongings –Must be placed under seat –May not be accessed during breaks Textbooks, music Students MAY read non-textbooks after testing is completed and materials are collected and STOP sign appears on testing screen. Food/Drink: NEW EXCEPTION: Medical need (diabetic, sick student, read aloud for adult) 11

Monitoring Students During Testing pp. 15--17 Walk frequently and quietly throughout the room. –Position self to have an unobstructed view of and easy access to students. Do not read test questions from screen. Do not indicate answers to students. Some examples include but are not limited to: –telling students to “look at the question again” or offering similar advice; –making a facial expression, hand gesture, or utterance (e.g., coughing, clearing throat) to indicate approval or disapproval of the student’s response; and –standing beside the desk, reading a question, looking at the student’s response, and then pointing to the correct answer or pointing to the question as if to indicate “read the question again because you have bubbled the wrong answer.” Test administrators and proctors (see proctor statement) cannot help students: –by explaining the directions in their own words; –by explaining the meaning of any word in the directions, test questions, or answer choices; –by rephrasing test questions; –by translating a word or phrase into another language; or –by providing synonyms for unknown words.

Monitoring Students During Testing pp.17-20 Student Emergencies (including fire alarm): Two adults must be in the room at all times –Student should click on PAUSE button for restroom/fire alarm –Student should click on CONTINUE button to continue Students with Accommodations –Complete Review of Accommodations forms –Review pp. 19-20 for student with Multiple Test Sessions During breaks, select Pause.

On Test Day pp. 28-31 Verify materials –Test administrators must sign in/out scrap paper, reference tables Review checklist of required materials Follow a uniform process of administration –Equipment is working –Students have access to computers –Testing sign on door –Room is clear of clutter, well-lighted and, comfortable –Instructional materials are removed/covered –Instructional read as written –Prohibited devices secured

On Test Day pp. 31-32 Complete BEFORE students enter room –Turn on computers and log into the computer using the special testing login (on the secure data website) –Approx 30 minutes BEFORE students enter, launch NCTest Secure Browser –Select assessment type and name –Enter your NCEducation username and password. –Select student name –Ensure the screen is set to the START page, but DO NOT click start. Complete AS students enter room –Instruct them to sit at the correct computer –Instruct them NOT to begin

On Test Day pp. 32 Complete ATER students enter room –Confirm students are at correct computer Name, Powerschool number, and test name is viewable and correct Screen is still at the START button

Procedures for Students When Finished Before Time –Students who complete the test before the scheduled time is over are allowed to read novels or other nontextbooks (e.g., magazines) while other students continue to work during the scheduled time. –Before students are allowed to read, the test administrator must: –Ensure student clicked the End Test button to close the test; (Once students have clicked the End Test button, they will not be able to return to the test items. A STOP sign will appear on students’ monitors after the End Test button has been clicked and the test has been closed.) –Collect all ancillary materials (e.g. used blank paper and reference table); and ensure the student’s reading material is a novel or other nontextbook, such as a magazine.

After Testing - Packaging and Returning Materials Return all materials to the Testing Department –Scrap paper –Reference tables File completed Review of Accommodations Used During Testing forms at the school. Maintain training rosters and materials check-out documentation at school
