4 What a Portfolio contains & why you need these items A Portfolio contains: Academic Resume (use Naviance) Transcript Test Scores Letters of Recommendations Essays – Have “A” and “C” ready NCAA Clearinghouse Info Shot records Volunteer Hours This will help you: Be more efficient when completing Scholarships, Clearinghouse & College Applications

5 Testing & Fee Waivers 4-year College Entrance exams are: SAT – apply at www.collegeboard.comwww.collegeboard.com ACT – apply at www.act.orgwww.act.org Depending on the school you are applying to or the major you are selecting you may also want and need to take an SAT Subject Test. If you are eligible for free/reduced lunch you will be eligible for fee waivers for the following: SAT, ACT, NCAA Clearinghouse and some college applications

6 Military Choices & Benefits Army Marines Navy Air Force Coast Guard Hazelwood Act – (Texas Residents) If you are a veteran in good standing that did not use your educational benefits your child is eligible to use benefits. Each branch offers a variety of educational benefits please contact recruiters for details ASVAB Assessment – will be administering to all seniors on 10/14/15.

7 NCAA Clearinghouse The purpose of this organization is to work with the NCAA to determine students’ eligibility to participate in sports in their first years in a university or college. For NCAA Division I or Division II institutions the Clearinghouse reviews the student athlete's academic record, SAT or ACT scores, and amateur status to ensure conformity with NCAA rules.

11 What school should I attend?  A school that values you and your talents  A school that is a good fit for YOU  A school that meets you in the middle with a reasonable and/or good scholarship opportunity Do Visits! When Selecting your School of Choice You Should Be Wise and Financially Responsible

Apply Texas for in-state schools - www.applytexas.orgwww.applytexas.org Common Application for out-of-state schools www.commonapp.org www.commonapp.org If your school is not in either of these networks- you will need to visit school website for instructions on how to obtain application - most likely via their website.  Open Enrollment – Junior colleges, 2 year schools  Holistic Review process – 4 year schools, common with private schools
