2. Testimonial: Samantha’s Story Samantha first became homeless after giving birth to her son, Jonathan. Prior to this time, Samantha had been taking on more responsibility than she could bare-offering to raise her young nephew after her sister had turned to drugs. While Samantha was pregnant, bad went to worse when the father of her son left her -leaving her with no resources. Growing up in San Bernardino, Samantha was raised by her mother and grandmother who had both passed away. With no support system, and no money in savings, Samantha contacted local agencies to receive support to stay at a motel until she could find a more permanent solution. Thankfully, Samantha found Mercy House and received the resources she needed to have a home again. Mercy House was able to provide Samantha with the security deposit and rental assistance she needed to move into her own apartment! Mercy House even collaborated with a local restaurant to make sure that Samantha, Jonathan, and her nephew would be able to have what they needed to celebrate Christmas. Thanks to the hard work of the staff at the San Bernardino Access Center, along with our generous supporters, Samantha now has a place to call home, and the security she needed to raise her family.
