4 2012 DoD VPP CX Update 45 total DoD Star sites VPP Stars awarded in 2012 –4 OSHA Stars (AF, DLA, USN) –3 OCONUS “Navy Stars” –1 OCONUS “Army Strong Flag” Star sites recommended by OSHA Regions: 3 Sites awaiting OSHA on-site assessments: 6 CX site assessments completed: 64 New sites opened: 18 Sites departed: 4

5 DoD’s VPP Experience Over 325 DoD organizations actively participate in VPP DoD’s VPP “Star” sites report more than a 71% reduction in incident rates from previous records DoD’s VPP sites are 16% better than their non-VPP peers at reducing new injuries DoD VPP sites are 32% better at reducing lost work days than non-VPP peer sites DoD VPP “Star” sites achieved more than $54 million in estimated cost avoidance – and this does not take into account saved worker compensation costs

6 VPP Emerging Issues MEDCOM’s Organizational-wide VPP Deployment Voluntary Protection Programs Participants Association Annual (VPPPA) 2012 National Conference –19-23 August at Anaheim Convention Center, CA –2,800 estimated to attend from across private and public industries plus approximately 250 from DoD services/agencies –DoD-specific luncheons/speeches planned for 20-22 Aug –4-day offering of workshops/speakers addressing current safety, health and environmental issues http://www.vpppa.org/Conference/

8 Purpose Report e-VPP Tool specific usage metrics and improvements/enhancements Enhancements rolled out in April All sites are not yet taking full advantage of the capabilities, hence, data shown may not reflect true site progress Request encouragement from service leads for sites to use the tool to its full potential Collect and present improvements/enhancements recommended by the field to the VPP WG

17 POWER Initiative Outcomes Under the POWER Initiative, each executive department and agency will be expected to improve its performance in seven areas: –reducing total injury and illness case rates; –reducing lost time injury and illness case rates –analyzing lost time injury and illness data –increasing the timely filing of workers' compensation claims –increasing the timely filing of wage-loss claims; –reducing lost production day rates –speeding employees' return to work in cases of serious injury or illness
