Theory The principle of linguistic relativity holds that the structure of a language affects the ways in which its speakers are able to conceptualize their world, i.e. their world view. "Sapir–Whorf hypothesis" states: strong version: language determines thought and that linguistic categories limit and determine cognitive categories weak version: linguistic categories and usage influence thought and certain kinds of non-linguistic behavior
4
My purpose Primary: find universal symbols for ideas Secondary: have fun, while stimulate creativity
5
How it works 1. one must design freely on an interface 3. you have a feedback to what you sketched 5. the cycle start over 2. people see the sketches and give a meaning to the shapes 4. people can see possible modifications, and change the meaning (the change will be tracked)
6
Who - Player's side not given a word, just sketch how it comes and see what people tell you makes you understand your ability to express ideas improve your ability to express yourself
7
Who - User's side Images/sketches: can see just for fun can like/dislike them (sharing) can see most relevant can name them can correlate them can create groups
8
Play modes sketch freely sketch what could resemble an idea sketch in teams o draw without communicating and see how the design evolve ("cooperative design" and "auto organization") o find people with affine to you basing on the assumption that our character and forma mentis influences our way to draw player can limit the number of word users can use do describe the sketch
9
Why - Broader benefit Create a universal catalog: to associate shape/symbols to meaning/concepts o e.g. to create icons really universal for UI o to communicate easier to describe cultural differences collect knowledge and comprehend how symbols are used in different cultures and/or languages
10
Where Computers Mobile phones Portable devices Amusement arcades Schools On paper and submitted with automated scanners o virtually in any place!
