Decibel Scale Measures sound intensity Pg. 563 A formula which relates the sound intensity N in w/m 2 to its relative intensity D in decibels is For example: Find the relative intensity in decibels of a conversation in which the sound intensity is 3.16 x 10 -6 w/m 2.

pH Scale Measures the concentration of hydrogen ions in a substance Pg. 566 The acidity or alkalinity of a substance is measured on the pH scale pH can range from 0 to 14 Less than 7…acidic Equal 7…neutral Greater than 7…alkaline where H + is the concentration of hydrogen ions (in moles/liter) of the substance
