2 Nordisk Ministerråd Nordic Master Programme Pilot project Provides funding to higher education institutions (HEIs) for the development of Nordic Master Programmes Joint study programmes of high academic quality New call for proposals to be announced 1 March 2010 Projects may receive up to DKK 1 million, ~135.000 Euro Administered by SIU

3 Nordisk Ministerråd Background Part of the Nordic Council of Minister’s strategy to: o strengthen the Nordic region as a more coherent unit o boost the region’s competitiveness in a globalized world o strengthen the position as an attractive region for education

4 Nordisk Ministerråd Objectives –Stimulate and support cooperation between Nordic higher education institutions (HEIs) to develop master programmes offered jointly by the cooperating institutions –Create master programmes of high international quality –Draw on the strengths of each country and of each institution –Attract the best Nordic and non-Nordic students –Provide the spread of ”best practice” between Nordic HEIs –Strengthen the international profile

5 Nordisk Ministerråd Scope Funds will be allocated to finance six programmes of up to DKK 1 000 000 (~ 135.000 euro) each Disbursement of funds to each project in two instalments: o 50% is disbursed at the start of the project o 50% is disbursed when the programme starts Funds are allocated to the development of master programmes, - not to the implementation of these Minimum 3 institutions from 3 different countries must participate The countries that can apply are the five Nordic countries, including the autonomous regions

6 Nordisk Ministerråd Programme requirements Programmes must encompass 120 ECTS Each of the participating HEIs must contribute with minimum 20 ECTS Programmes must be taught in English ”Joint study programmes” with graduates receiving one joint or two/multiple national diplomas, depending on national legislation Programmes must be accredited in all the countries involved in the consortium

7 Nordisk Ministerråd Consortia Collaborating institutions apply as a consortium Each consortium must consist of minimum 3 HEIs from 3 different Nordic countries Each consortium must have right to award PhDs within the discipline concerned The consortia that receive funding should be the HEIs that actually implement and start the study programmes Each consortium elects an institution as a project coordinator

8 Nordisk Ministerråd Assessment criteria –The quality of the application is the decisive factor –Priority areas may, however, be announced –Applications are evaluated by a committee: o Experts from Nordic and non-Nordic countries o Experts are elected by the Nordic Council of Ministers –Final decision on allocations is taken by the Secretary General of the Nordic Council of Ministers

9 Nordisk Ministerråd Four projects were granted funds in 2009 o Nordic Master in computational chemistry and physics o Nordic Master in Maritime Engineering o Nordic Master in Didactics of Mathematics o Everyday Practices in Changing Societies

10 Nordisk Ministerråd The projects that were granted funds in 2007 o Nordic Master in Gerontology o Nordic Master in Innovative Information and Communication Technologies o Nordic Master in Marine Ecosystems and Climate o Nordic Master in Plant Pathology o Nordic Master in Innovative sustainable Energy Engineering o Nordic Master in The Religious Roots of Europe
