10 OBJECTIVES OF COMENIUS PROJECT The objectives for this European collaboration belong to different categories: - To encourage the learning of European foreign languages - To give pupils the possibility to acquaint themselves with the language of a partner country - To practice foreign languages and increase their motivation towards language learning Intercultural communication - To develop opportunities of understanding different cultural environments (Romanian, Italian, Portuguese, Turkish…); - To raise European dimensions of education by promoting respect and understanding of the cultural and linguistic diversity; - To become aware of issues of global concern.

11 Pedagogical field - To support improvements in pedagogical approaches and school management; - To enhance the quality and European dimension of teacher training; - To exchange and disseminate good practice examples as a way of greater motivation among the different schools and teachers in order to achieve progress;

12 To encourage teamwork, use of foreign language, develop social skills; - To develop students` self-esteem and self-awareness; Development of ICT abilities in teaching and learning - To develop communication with students and teachers from schools belonging to different geographical location; - To communicate via internet resources: chat, email, e- conferences, forums; - To disseminate the results of activities using internet resources: web page, forums; - To exchange teachers’ ideas and resources quickly and efficiently.

13 OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT “FOOD AND HEALTH” To motivate pupils to regularly participate in English language activities both within the curriculum and as an extra-curricular programme. The historical research of different food habits and the knowledge of different diets will be of great importance for people involved in the project because they will develop the curiosity in searching the healthiest diet for them and become more aware of the necessity to eat healthy food and to know the substances in food that help people to stay healthy

14 The project wants to help young people, our school communities, students’ families, their friends and the local communities in being aware about the importance of a healthy diet, in order to prevent some serious diseases such as anorexia or bulimia and other diseases caused by a bad way of eating and drinking.

15 It wants to be a campaign to improve the quality of life of all people involved in the project. It wants to give pupils and teachers in our schools an opportunity to exchange experience and information with colleagues in other countries, to work together on one topic regarding the eating which has been identified like a common problem in our schools

17 MOBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES ALREADY DONE Before the meeting, the school teams used ICT continuosly in order to communicate with each other,we regularly used :e-mails,web cam links,chat rooms coordinated by me,we also used fax and telephone in order to make arrangements and agreements about the activities to be carried out. During the meeting we exchanged our materials prepared in the period just before each meeting. The students from different schools became “ambassadors”of their communities and presented: 1)Their National School Systems 2) Their own Towns 3) Their own Schools. MEETING IN IASI ROMANIA ( 10th-16th Nov 2008) GRUP SCOLAR AGRICOL “VASILE ADAMACHI”

18 During the meeting in Romania, it were organized : 1.A traditional food context (Teams from each country brought the necessary ingredients in order to prepare a traditional recipe in the school canteen after that all participants tasted the products); 2 a project context (pupils created a project logo and mascot using colours,colored-papers, seeds and other materials. 3 students prepared a power-point presentation of a traditional healthy recipe from their country in the info - lab. 4 culinary decorative art products (students made decorations using fruits and vegetables on the project theme.)

19 EXCURSIONS IN IASI Visit to the Botanical Garden Visit to The University “AL.I Cuza” Visit through the town Visit to the Memorial Cathedral and Radio Trinitas studios. Visit to Cetatuia Convent.

20 MEETING IN SCAFATI- ITALY (16th-21st February 2009) ISTITUTO TECNICO INDUSTRIALE “A: PACINOTTI Communication before the meeting involved internet, mails, chat, fax. telephone..etc During the meeting the students from different schools presented : 1) Their own Food Habits history ( Powerpoint presentation) The coordinator and Expert Nutritionists presented : 2)A Questionnaire about Food Habits and the Lifestyle of school communities ( the result of a cooperation among schools and the supervision of expert nutritionists from the Local health Service Salerno 1 –Cava dè Tirreni District.The main goal of the questionnare was to get to know the food habits of each school community. It was given to 15 students,15 teachers and 15 parents from 3 schools in each town of each school partner. The result of the survey was presented in Portugal during the third meeting

22 Activities carried out from February to April 2009 Intense activity in cooperation at distance for the preparation of final products to be presented at the third and last meeting of the first year.In particular each school worked in order to help the others in the realization of: The Healthy Recipe Book (5 healthy recipes for each country) Amora - Portugal. The Booklet on the typical products (4 typical products for each country) Iasi – Romania The implementation of the “food and health” web site (history of towns and materials presented during meetings). Nazilli-Turkey The results of the questionnaire. Scafati –Italy The web quest tools. Bucharest Romania The implementation of a Blog. Cava de’ Tirreni Italy The logbook (the Coordinator)

23 MEETING IN AMORA-SEIXAL- PORTUGAL (19th-25th APRIL 2009) Before the meeting there was intense communication via internet, mails, fax, telephone, chat…among school partners in order to take important decisions for teachers, students’ accomodation and materials for the final products. 24 During the meeting in Portugal the following activities were carried out: Students presented their school final products; The coordinator prepared this “ logbook” with all past and future activities and mobilities (PowerPoint presentation). The school teams worked to write a final report about the first year of cooperation pointing out the positive and negative aspects of the cooperation, the possible problems and difficulties in working together and at the same time the happiness to have found very special colleagues and planned future activities and agreements.

25 The following activities were organized in in Portugal : A Sports activitity for students involved in the project; An Art& Craft activity : a tile board inspired by the topic of the project; A project party :students, parents and teachers met and tasted some typical food and sweet brought by participants; An activity organized by the School Health Club; A tour of the school.

28 FUTURE ACTIVITIES Further development of the topic of the project by studying in detail and pointing out the problems and solutions caused by eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia) and health care ( Dental care, physical exercises and food safety guidelines). Arrangement and agreement about the date of next meetings Exchanges of materials and products Comparison and contrast about different food habits Final product Exibition of photos and of works done Dissemination: web pages, e-twinning, blog….

29 CONSIDERATIONS During the first year the planned mobilities were fulfilled and all planned activities carried out and objectives reached. It has been a year of intense work and duties for teachers and students involved in the project but also of great satisfaction and gratification for the achievement of the planned tasks.

30 It has been the fulfilment of a dream, started at distance, among some special teachers, scattered in different European places, sharing the same passion for working together around a same theme, as well as the same wish to meet each other and to cooperate in order to improve their methods of teaching, their English skills, their students’ motivation in learning English and how to eat healthy.

31 It is with great pleasure that we can state that we have achieved our common goals, through debates, discussions, confrontations but we have also met each other and appreciated the contribution given to the project by all of us and the beginning of lifelong friendships among us.
