2 No Irish participation to date. EIT an important part of the Horizon 2020 negotiations Proposed budget of €2.86B Need to act now to be part of the next wave.

3 Action required. 3 new KIC topics to launch in 2013/14 Healthy living and active aging Food4Future Raw Materials How to support Irish activity in this area?.

4 Solution 3 grants of €100K, one for each area Very tight turn around Funding for 12 person months and travel, no overhead allowed  23 Nov 12 – call launched  17 Dec 12 – call closed  18/19 Dec 12 – call evaluation  20 Dec 12 – awardees informed.

5 Criteria Must discuss application in advance with Enterprise Ireland Must include the 3 pillars of the EIT: Education, Innovation and Research Must not be a single institution but a national initiative Excellence most important.

6 Criteria Expected to work with the relevant NCP Expected to share knowledge between the 3 awardees Meeting of all 3 on 28 Jan to kick-off Enterprise Ireland will not interfere in partner selection, KIC selection etc. Leave this to the experts

7 Expected outcome Irish participation in all 3 of the next wave of KICs (ambitious!) Expect to see a national coordinated approach in these areas for future European activity Expect long term links with KIC partners whether successful or not If not successful, work to join the winners.

8 Food4Future Award to Teagasc (Irish agriculture and food development authority) Active in a KIC proposal Funding to be used to develop and broaden Irish activity Funding to be used for KIC preparation, working groups etc. Contact: declan.troy@teagasc.ie.

9 Healthy living Award to Trinity College Dublin Not active in a KIC proposal Funding to be used to kick start Irish activity in all 3 pillars Funding to be used to identify a good KIC consortium and gain access Contact: tilda@tcd.ie.

10 Raw Materials Award to Trinity College Dublin Active in RM Initiative at EU level Funding to be used to:  Develop national agenda in RM  Coordinate current activities across Ireland  Identify the best strategy  Gain access to strong KIC consortium.
