4 The Celts The Celts invaded England in about 500 B.C. They arrived from the center of Europe by boats. They were warrios and farmers, they lived in villages and their houses were round and the roofs were made of straw. The Celts used iron weapons and tools. Their art is famous still today and their style is based on continous lines and knots. There is a lot of Celtic Art in Scotland and Ireland. Invasions

6 The Romans Julius Ceasar Julius Ceasar visited Britain twice, At the first in 55BC but he left because of stormy weather. The Romans returned to Britain in 43AD and the country became a part of the Roman Empire.They stayed 400 years.They left the country to defend their home territories. Rome was in danger becauso of Gothic attacks and the soldiers in England were called to help. They build the Hadrian’s WallHadrian’s Wall Invasions

8 Hadrian’s waLL Emperor Hadrian decided to build a wall to protect the Empire from the Scottish tribes who were wild and savage. Hadrian’s Wall was built between 122-130 AD it crosses England from east to west. Invasions Romans

9 The Anglo- Saxon The Anglo-Saxons invaded Britain in the 5 th century AD. They came from Holland, Denmark and Germany. They ruled for 500 years. They pushed the Celtsthe Celts into Cornwall, Wales and Scotland and formed kingdoms. They weren’t christian, but they believed in different gods.different gods. Invasions

26 THE TUDORS The Tudors ruled from 1485 to 1603. The two most famous Tudor monarchs were Henry VIII,who ruled from 1509 to 1547, and his daughter Elizabeth I, who ruled from 1558 to 1603. They loved sports and music and they could speak many lenguages fluently.Henry VIII Henry VIII

27 Henry VIII Henry VIII is famous for having six wives, but hissix wives reign was also important. When he became king, England was a catholic country. In 1533 Henry quarrelled with the Pope because the Pope refused to let him divorce his wife. and founded the Church of England with himself as head. In this way England became a Protestant country with the monarch as supreme head of its Church. This situation still remains today. Tudors
