2 QW: Macbeth 1.7 Questions Instead of completing your quick write in your composition notebook, you will work on answering questions 1-3 on the packet for Macbeth 1.7 based on what we read yesterday. ▫1. Based on this scene, what kind of person is Macbeth? Describe him. ▫2. Find 2 lines of evidence that prove your point of view from #1. ▫3. What is Macbeth’s conflict?

3 Objective, Agenda, & Homework Objective: Students will analyze the development of character and conflict in a passage (so they can compare it to a short story). Agenda: ▫Quick Write ▫Finish Annotating Macbeth 1.7 ▫Read and Annotate Macbeth 2.2 Homework: ▫Finish Macbeth 2.2 questions (if necessary). ▫Study Greek roots 37-40 for next week’s quiz.

5 From Yesterday: Macbeth Overview Overview: In the story of Macbeth, Macbeth is a Scottish noble and a valiant military man. He is told by 3 witches that he will be the king of Scotland. After the prophecy, his wife tells him that he must act to make the prophecy come true. He then kills King Duncan and becomes King of Scotland. Thereafter, he lives in anxiety and fear, unable to rest or to trust his nobles. ▫1.7: Macbeth wrestles with his conscience, unsure whether or not to kill King Duncan. He is eventually swayed into the act by his wife. ▫2.2: Macbeth returns from having killed Duncan and is in shock at what he’s done.

8 Macbeth 1.7 and 2.2 As we read, we will translate what the characters are saying. ▫Be sure to take notes in the margins or in your notebook on the difficult passages. After we read, you will work with a partner to answer the questions about character and conflict based on Act 2, Scene 2. ▫Think about how the conflict is resolved and how Macbeth’s character has changed since Act 1, Scene 7. Find evidence to support your thinking.
